MCP for AI agents

Backcountry Hunter is a gear loadout app with MCP for AI agents. Connect Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT to the gear and loadouts on your account and plan a hunt in the chat — an elk season next year, an archery kit, or a rifle pack — using the same weight rules as the app.

What the agent can do

List and search your gear by name, category, weight, quantity, and notes
Create, update, and delete gear in your garage
List your loadouts and open one with its items, total weight, and base weight
Create a loadout with a hunt type (elk, archery, rifle), season, date, and notes
Add, update, and remove items and quantities in a loadout
Duplicate a loadout
Summarize pack weight and suggest lighter catalog gear when the optimizer has alternatives

Every tool is limited to the hunter who created the token. Another account's gear and loadouts are not returned.

Create a token

Sign in to Backcountry Hunter.
Open Settings → AI agents.
Name the token and create it. Copy the token immediately. It is stored as a hash and shown only once.
Revoke a token from the same page when you are done with it.

Send the token on every request:

In Claude, add a custom connector. Use the server URL and paste the personal access token as the bearer token. Do not commit the token.

Replace YOUR_TOKEN with the token from settings. Do not commit it. The server speaks remote MCP over streamable HTTP, so clients that only speak stdio can use a bridge such as mcp-remote pointed at the same URL.

A note on the public catalog

Custom gear you create is added to your garage. Shared catalog items can be added to your garage and your loadouts. Name, category, and weight of a catalog item you did not create stay as published. Quantity and notes belong to your garage.
